The first of two Dallas protests is scheduled for Wednesday, May 15th at 4:00 pm at the office of the World Affairs Council, located at 325 N. St. Paul Street. The protest will coincide with a nationwide teachers' strike in Brazil to decry devastating cuts to Brazil's education budget by President Bolsonaro.

On Thursday, May 16th, activists will gather at 11:00 am to demonstrate at the Old Parkland campus (3819 Maple Ave., Dallas), where President Bolsonaro is scheduled to receive an award by the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is a controversial figure due to his attacks on human rights  and calls for violence against women, LGBTQ groups, and indigenous people. Texas activists are hoping to show solidarity with Brazil and New Yorkers who protested his visit to the Big Apple recently. Organizers are grateful Dallas City Councilman Phillip Kingston denounced President Bolsonaro’s visit to Dallas and are hopeful Dallas Mayoral candidates Scott Griggs and Eric Johnson, Congressman Colin Allred and Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson will call for the removal of the welcome mat for this powerful and dangerous head of state.
