Minutes of the DPJC Board

July 20, 2017 Meeting

7:00pm. at the Mix

Members Present:
Don Dillard, President, Dee Marsh, V.P., Mavis Belisle, Treasurer, Aftab Siddiqui, Jameela Oomerjee, James Russell by phone

Members Absent: Len Ellis, and Wissal Abusaad

Others Present: Valley Reed, Leslie Harris, Lon Burnam, Patricia, Bill Maxwell

1. Centering, Don

2. Previous Minutes: reminded that Len had previously sent out minutes but that the previous session did not meet quorum requirements and therefore no formal resolutions/motions are included.

3. Financial Report:  Don relayed his scheduled meeting this Saturday 7.22.17 with Joy King, CPA to gain “read only” access DPJC bank records. Mavis reported upon her efforts to file with the IRS after the previous extension filing. Mavis presented the Treasurer’s report which was approved without dissent.  A general consensus exists that we look forward to Joy King’s very informal review and suggestions in that the format of the Financial report leaves too many questions unanswered.

4. Infrastructure Committee Report: Mavis reported no new By-Laws recommendations from the Infrastructure Committee but some discussion of potential board members with comments and help from Leslie and Valley.

5. Advisory Committee report: Bill presented the most recent minutes and led in a discussion of the email about the Advisory Committee’s mandate per the bylaws.  It was generally agreed that the Bylaws section about the “Steering Committee” does not meet our needs.  After hearing the consensus Bill agreed to return at a later Board with specific wording recommendations.

6. Communications Committee report:  Valley: let’s encourage nominations now for the Awards Dinner and encouraged sending her updates on allied agencies and events of interest that she may include in the enewsletter. Leslie gave report including improving the postings on Facebook.

7. Fundraising Committee Report: Lon presented and Valley spoke to the Giving Day on September 14 procedures.

8. Program Committees:
Nuclear Free: Mavis gave a summary report mentioning Leona Morgan on August 19.
Human/Civil Rights: Aftab gave a summary report mentioning the efforts to bring drinking water to the border area for safety of migrants.
Mid-East Peace: Don gave a summary report mentioning Wissal’s report on her recent visit to Palestine and Hadi’s upcoming lecture on U.S. Saudi Relations, 7.22.17,
Environmental Justice: Leslie told of Laura Sohn, and Yolanda Blue Horse agreeing to Co-Chair Justice

9. Connecting with Allies: Leslie updated on the vetting of Allies as formal partners of DPJC.

10. Upcoming events: Hadi on U.S. Saudi Relations 7.22.17

11. New business: none

Next Board Meeting: August 17, 2017 7 P.M. at the Mix
Adjourn: 8:50pm

Submitted: Don Dillard, President
